TV: League Pass
- Memphis coach Lionel Hollins was guarded about how much playing time to expect from forward Dante Cunningham and swingman Quincy Pondexter. Both joined the team two days ago and will suit up for the Grizzlies for the first time tonight. “Dante is going to play behind Zach (Randolph) and Quincy is going to play behind Rudy (Gay) to start off with,” Hollins said. “If you’re a basketball player, you’ll figure out where to fit in.” Pondexter, obtained in a trade that sent second-year point guard Greivis Vasquez to New Orleans, appeared in 66 games and started six last season. Cunningham, signed as a restricted free agent from Charlotte, is a former second-round draft pick who has played 141 games between the Bobcats and Portland.
- Gary Neal enjoyed a successful rookie campaign last season for the Spurs, including a last-second 3-pointer that helped the Spurs defeat Memphis in Game 5 of the Western Conference first-round playoffs, but he’s already off to a sophomore jinx. He underwent appendectomy surgery earlier in the month and is expected to miss the opening week of the season for San Antonio. He missed just two games last season while averaging almost 10 points and 21 minutes a game.
